Bee Queen, Queen Bee

Anna Taugher

To create a duet with nature one must first cover themselves in bees. Well this is how Sara Mapelli achieves it, and her work truly is a duet. Mapelli dances with 10,000 bees covering her body like a living garment with her body moving in reaction to the push and pull of the bees vibration. As an energy therapist she uses these performances to exemplify the connection we have to nature and calm her clients fear of this. The result is simply mesmerizing, I can only say "Buzz On."

Earth is heating up and the collective vibration of this energy is seen best in the oscillating wings of an insect.

Anna Collette Hunt travels with her 10,000 ceramic insects taking over gallery walls like no other exhibit in 'Stirring the Swarm.' In this work Hunt depicts the awakening and infestation of the species around us.

Weaving Home

Anna Taugher

Architect and artist Abeer Seikaly has designed a nomadic shelter that stores solar energy, collects rainwater, and is lightweight and folds up for easy transportation. Struck by the growing number refugees and natural disasters that displace millions each year Seikaly sought out to create a solution. With reflection on our historic nature of being nomadic creatures with the desire of settlement Seikaly found inspiration in the traditional art form of weaving and the natural interlocking of snake skin. This ingenuity on a sustainable structure awarded Seikaly the 2013 Lexus Design Award. I am completely inspired by the beauty in this invention, physically and by the thought of what it could mean to humans across the Earth.

Experimental Experience: A Story of Land Art

Anna Taugher

These artists have shaped shaped how I view the world and now there is a movie to document them all in one place, Troublemakers. Just watching the trailer for the first time I got chills. Land Art: bridging the artist with the natural and using the greatest canvas of all, Earth. These artist created something larger than themselves and though physical pieces were formed it is the experience, the pilgrimage, that is the true value. Some I have journeyed to already and after viewing this documentary the fire has been lit to visit them all with a 2016 roadtrip! What are your 2016 plans?
