The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is celebrating a technology that has saved millions of lives: vaccines. Access to early immunizations gives kids a fighting chance against viruses. This leaves them focused on what they will become in this world instead of what they must battle to survive. The Invention and advancement of vaccines has led to the eradication of smallpox, near eradication of polio, and 75% decrease in measles. Sadly millions around the globe are still dying due to lack of access to this cheap and simple solution. Project "The Art of Saving a Life" engaged 30 artists from around the world to express the story of immunization.
Utilizing art to bring forth social change is what I believe the act of creation is all about. I applaud the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for taking a scientific breakthrough, and issue area that many may not be aware of, and bringing it to the masses through the medium of art.
