Giuliano Mauri has ventured to the base of the Italian Mountains and planted a cathedral of trees. Creating a structure of fir tree columns with hazel and chestnut branches woven throughout, and planted within each column resides a beech sapling. As the structure of fir, hazel, and chestnut wood degrades the Beech trees with outgrow the original structure creating a living cathedral. Mauri has created a church of contemplation out of the succession of nature, reminiscent of Paterson's Living Library. I am captivated by the forethought and patience that has gone in to both of these projects. Mauri has created a place of peace and escape in my mind for this holiday season.
